BESTGUI is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for BEST written in Python and GTK+.
The Basic Envisat SAR Toolbox (BEST) is a collection of executable software tools that has been designed to facilitate the use of ESA (the European Space Agency) SAR data. It operates according to user-generated parameters files. For more detail you should refer to the BEST Home Page.
BESTGUI allows you to easily generate parameters files for BEST and launch the processing from the GUI.
The BEST software distribution already includes graphical front-ends.
BESTGUI aims to be an improved GUI front-end for UNIX platforms (it also run on WindowsTM, see Supported platforms section in the BESTGUI User Manual), with a prettier look and feel and some useful additional features like:
Important
BEST is ESA software.
The current stable version of BESTGUI is 1.2.1 released on 13-04-2009.
You can download the source code and binary packages from the BESTGUI project page on SourceForge. Take a look to the Available packages formats section for a summary description of packages contents.
Both source and binary packages include the full HTML documentation and the PDF version of the User Manual.
Note
For legal reasons BEST is never included in the BESTGUI packages.
You have to download and install it separately.
The source code of BESTGUI is available via subversion from the BESTGUI project page on SourceForge.
In order to run BESTGUI you need to install the following software:
Note
PyGTK requires the GTK+ library. While it is usually already installed on UNIX platforms, you may need to download and install it by yourself on WindowsTM.
A good GTK+ distribution for win32 can be found here.
From the main BESTGUI directory run the following command with super-user privileges:
$ python setup.py install
You can also run BESTGUI without installing it:
$ python scripts/bestgui
or, on WindowsTM:
cmd> python scripts\best-gui.pyw
See the Installation section of the BESTGUI User Manual for a complete installation guide.
The BESTGUI User Manual is available both in HTML and PDF format.
Please refer to the Downloads section to know how to get them.
